Reubens in the running

Sunday Times – 25 March 2007

THE Reuben brothers, the billionaire property tycoons, are understood to be front-runners to buy Northern Racing, which runs Chepstow racecourse, for almost £100m. Northern is due to announce its full-year financial results this week, but it is thought unlikely the deal will be cemented by then. Meanwhile, the Reubens have emerged as surpise contenders for Selecta, the European vending-machine business put up for sale by Compass through Citigroup for more than £800m. Short-listed bidders have until April 4 to submit offers. The Reubens are said to be competing against private-equity firms Terra Firma, Apax, Advent, Carlyle and investment bank Goldman Sachs.
