European Land is delighted to confirm that Westminster City Councils planning committee resolved to grant planning consent last night for the revised Merchant Square scheme at Paddington. The Robin Partington Architects designed scheme is for four new buildings, including the iconic 42 storey tower, 1 Merchant Square, all set around a new garden square next to the canal basin.

Richard Banks, CEO of European Land which is developing the site, said: “This is a fantastic result for Westminster and the whole team that has been working on the plan. It satisfactorily concludes 18 months of detailed and constructive planning work. It is encouraging that Westminster continues to share our exciting vision to transform Paddington into a thriving new quarter of Central London”

Merchant Square is the final part of the Paddington Basin regeneration, which European Land began more than 13 years ago. Construction is expected to commence early in the New Year.
